With the disruption in the delivery of medical care due to the virus, I’ve been seeking ways to help my patients who suffer from chronic pain. We still are seeing patients, and offering telemedicine to all. There is a brand new technology being used for the noninvasive treatment of musculoskeletal pain. It may be a very beneficial treatment for patients awaiting surgery or who desire a noninvasive, non-narcotic treatment.
That’s why I am pleased to announce that I have created availability for my patients with my colleague Dr. Erik Nilssen. He will share his practice’s newest technology, OrthoLazer, with the Panhandle community.
OrthoLazer, which is powered by MLS M8 Robotic Lasers, is a treatment that uses cold lasers to target damaged cells in order to stimulate cellular activity that promotes healing and recovery.
Who is a good candidate for OrthoLazer?
Patients facing pain and inflammation caused by:
- Acute injury
- Degenerative musculoskeletal conditions
- Nerve pain
- And more
The MLS M8 system is FDA-approved and is generally accepted to be very safe, with no known side effects. It has been used for decades in Europe and has recently “jumped the pond” to find a home in American medicine. The treatment lasts anywhere from 8-10 minutes per session, with most patients finding pain relief that compounds with each additional treatment after two to four sessions; most patients undergo a total of seven to ten treatments during recovery.
Dr. Nilssen is excited to share OrthoLazer with the Panhandle community, especially with increased caution in medical practices due to the spread of the coronavirus.
The team at Nilssen Orthopedics is available for phone consultations or questions regarding laser treatment. They are implementing strict precautions, including social distancing during OrthoLazer treatment to minimize the chance of exposure. If you have been exposed to a patient with an illness, have traveled to a hot spot, or are showing symptoms please call to reschedule.
This treatment could be an excellent way for patients experiencing pain to get some relief during this period of social distancing.

We are eager for our existing patients and new patients to receive the care they need. Please reach out to our team at (850) 916-3731 or schedule an appointment (online or in-person) if you would like to get in touch.
In the meantime, we hope that you, your family and loved ones are kept safe, follow all CDC guidelines, and use this time to spend time in meaningful ways. We value all of you and thank you for your patience during these extraordinary and unprecedented times.
