Total Knee Arthroplasty Protocol
Week 1-2
- Walk with two crutches or walker as tolerated
- Ice 20 minutes of each hour
- Exercises
- Ankle pumps with leg elevation
- Hamstring stretches (gentle)
- Electrical stimulation to quads using KneeHab
- Straight leg raises
- Quad sets
- Knee extension exercises
Week 3-4
- Weight-bearing as tolerated with assisted device
- Continue compression, ice, and elevation for swelling
- Continue stretching
- Exercises
- Quad sets
- Side lying hip abduction
- Side lying hip adduction
- Seated long arc quad
- Supine straight leg raise
- Wall squat
- Knee extension
- Straight leg raises
- Hamstring curls
- ¼ squats
Week 5-6
- Continue all exercises
- Initiate:
- Front and lateral step-ups (low height)
- ¼ front lunge
- Continue compression, ice, and elevation for swelling
