Total Knee Arthroplasty Protocol

Week 1-2

  • Walk with two crutches or walker as tolerated
  • Ice 20 minutes of each hour
  • Exercises
    • Ankle pumps with leg elevation
    • Hamstring stretches (gentle)
    • Electrical stimulation to quads using KneeHab
      • Straight leg raises
      • Quad sets
      • Knee extension exercises

Week 3-4

Week 5-6

  • Continue all exercises
  • Initiate:
    • Front and lateral step-ups (low height)
    • ¼ front lunge
  • Continue compression, ice, and elevation for swelling
